Original JoJo’s (1995): The 1990s Micro Collectible Playground Phenomenon

Original JoJo’s is a small plastic collectible toy line launched in 1995 by Michal and Ilan Laor under LAOR Toys Ltd. The original collection featured 36 numbered characters, sold in blind packs and often accompanied by collectible stickers.

After initial success in Israel, JoJo’s expanded across Europe, particularly through distribution partnerships that helped establish the brand in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, and Italy. By the mid-1990s, they had become a recognizable part of 1990s playground collectible culture.

Each figure is compact, molded in solid plastic, and produced in bright neon-style colors typical of the decade. The numbered system encouraged completion of the 36-character base set. In English-speaking markets such as the United States and United Kingdom, the line appeared under the name Jojo’s Bouncin’ Boneheads, introducing painted and chromed variants.

JoJo’s relied on expressive sculpt design and collectibility rather than licensed storytelling. Their simplicity, affordability, and trading appeal made them a defining example of 1990s micro collectible toys.
