Premiering in 2001 on Cartoon Network, Samurai Jack was created by Genndy Tartakovsky, known for his bold, minimalist animation style. The story follows Jack, a samurai prince trained to defeat the demon Aku. Just as he’s about to strike, Aku casts him into a distant future where evil dominates.
Jack’s mission: find a way back to the past to undo Aku’s tyranny.
What makes the show legendary is its cinematic style:
Long silences, minimal dialogue, heavy atmosphere.
A striking visual identity, inspired by Japanese art, comics, and epic cinema.
Episodes spanning multiple genres — sci-fi, western, horror, comedy.
From robots to bounty hunters and monstrous creatures, Jack battles endlessly with his magical katana. Each episode feels like a visual poem mixed with samurai action.
The series ran for four seasons (2001–2004) before ending unresolved. But in 2017, a final fifth season aired on Adult Swim, darker and more violent, bringing Jack’s story to a stunning conclusion.
Samurai Jack remains a landmark in animation — stylish, mythic, and unforgettable.
