Spider-Man – The ordinary hero who became a legend

Few characters have defined modern pop culture quite like Spider-Man. Created in 1962 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the story of shy teenager Peter Parker, bitten by a radioactive spider, transformed the superhero genre forever.

Unlike the flawless heroes of the time, Peter was real: a kid from Queens juggling high school, family problems, heartbreak, and a secret life as a vigilante. His famous motto, “With great power comes great responsibility,” captured the moral heart of an entire generation.

Throughout the 1960s, Spider-Man faced a rogue’s gallery of unforgettable villains — Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, The Lizard, and Electro — each reflecting a part of his own inner struggle. The mask became a metaphor for identity, duty, and the weight of growing up.

The 1994 animated series defined his voice for a generation, while Sam Raimi’s film trilogy (2002–2007) turned him into a global cinematic icon.
