Description

Warrior (born James Brian Hellwig on June 16, 1959 in Crawfordsville and died on April 8, 2014 in Scottsdale) is an American wrestler (professional wrestler) and bodybuilder. He is known for his work with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) (later World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)) and World Championship Wrestling under the ring name The Ultimate Warrior.

Culturist turned wrestler, he twice won the WWF Intercontinental Championship and the WWF World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania VI, defeating Hulk Hogan to become one of the federation's main stars between the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He left the federation in the summer of 1991 after a disagreement over his salary, before returning less than a year later. This time he was fired for testing positive for steroids. He returned to the WWF one last time in 1996, for a few months. In 1998, he signed a contract with World Championship Wrestling, but the experiment came to nothing after he lost to Hogan at Halloween Havoc.

He went on to organize motivational seminars in the 2000s. In 2014, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and died three days after his induction. A year after his death, the WWE creates the "Warrior Award", a prize to recognize a personality who shows unwavering strength, perseverance, and lives with the courage and compassion embodied by the spirit of Ultimate Warrior.
