Released in 1986, Poltergeist II: The Other Side picks up the nightmare right where the original left off — only now, the spirits are meaner, creepier, and way more personal.
Following the events of Poltergeist (1982), the Freeling family is trying to move on. But when your home was built over a haunted burial ground, peace is a temporary illusion. Enter Reverend Henry Kane, a ghostly preacher with a skeletal grin and enough nightmare fuel to last a lifetime.
Kane isn’t just scary. He’s unnervingly human, with that cold dead stare and singsong voice that whispers evil like a lullaby. And then there’s the tequila worm scene — a body horror moment so intense it left a generation deeply suspicious of mezcal.
With H.R. Giger involved in creature design, the film oozes biological dread. Slimy spirits, twisted apparitions, and a growing sense of doom permeate every scene.
While the first Poltergeist hit us with spectacle and suburban apocalypse, the sequel digs into psychological terror, family trauma, and slow-building dread. It’s less flashy, more disturbing — and incredibly effective.
Even today, Poltergeist II remains a must-watch horror sequel. But seriously — if your TV starts acting weird… unplug it and run.
