Chief of the "Village des fous

To be a leader is to be a man, especially when it comes to presiding over the destiny of the only Gallic village still able to resist the Roman legions.

With great warriors such as Asterix and Obelix at his side, and all stuffed to the gills with magic potion, you'd think Abraracourcix's task would be easy. But no! Our leader has faced trials and tribulations more than once, and has proved time and again that he's not just a "half-chief" (even if this idea earned us one of René Goscinny's most irresistible gags! See page 6 of Asterix among the Helvetii).

And we're not even talking about Bonemine's recurring shield falls, or even her sharp remarks to her "Piglet" when she makes him whistle his ears off as she extols the success of her brother-in-law Homéopatix! We're thinking more of those moments of bravery when, winning an epic battle of the chiefs, braving those Belgians who prided themselves on being the bravest, confronting the competition of Orthopedix or resisting a frightful cure in Le bouclier arverne, Abraracourcix always answered present to defend the honor of his village, indeed of Gaul as a whole.

It didn't take much for some to see him as an ostensible Gaullian figure, and the authors have amused themselves by giving him a press conference (to be read in La Rentrée Gauloise) reminiscent of those held by the famous General, who was then at the helm of Gaul.
