Released in 1987, Bone Age was Kenner’s brilliant mashup of prehistoric power and buildable fun. Each set featured a fully poseable dinosaur skeleton (T-Rex, Triceratops, Pteranodon, etc.), armor pieces, and a small caveman or tribal warrior figure.
The coolest part? Modularity. The bones were connected by pegs and joints, allowing kids to take them apart and rebuild them into new dino forms, battle vehicles, or bizarre prehistoric war machines. It was like a Stone Age LEGO with a heavy metal barbarian vibe.
Highlights from the line included:
Bone Bronto – giant brontosaurus skeleton fortress.
Bone T-Rex – the star of the range, with snapping jaws.
Bone Pteranodon – aerial assault master.
Smaller sets with bone-based catapults and towers.
Despite the creativity and play value, Bone Age only lasted one year, lost in the crowded late-80s toy market. Today, complete sets are collector gold — especially boxed ones.
