Aired in 1988–1989, C.O.P.S. (Central Organization of Police Specialists) takes place in Empire City in the far-off year of 2020 (which we’ve long since passed). Led by Baldwin P. Vess, aka Bulletproof, this elite squad of specialists battles Big Boss and his gang of colorful, over-the-top criminals.
Each officer had their own style and gadget:
Bulletproof: cybernetic torso and sharp tactics.
LongArm: extending handcuffs.
Barricade: riot control expert.
Highway: motorcycle and speed specialist.
Others like Mace, Bowser & Blitz, Sundown…
The villains were just as memorable: Berserko, Ms. Demeanor, Turbo Tu-Tone, Rock Krusher — straight out of a neon-soaked comic book.
The French theme song “COPS, n’croche pas la loi!” still lives in fans’ heads, along with the show’s gadget-laden chases and futuristic vehicles.
Hasbro’s toyline featured G.I. Joe–scale action figures with removable gear and wild vehicles like the Copter, Roadster, Interceptor, and even the mobile HQ. Today, complete figures with all accessories are highly collectible.
With its mix of sci-fi, action, and over-the-top fun, COPS remains a retro cartoon legend.
