Launched in 1982 by Mattel, Masters of the Universe was designed as a spectacular toyline from the start, with a rich backstory to fire kids’ imaginations. The hero, He-Man — the muscular alter ego of Prince Adam — defends Castle Grayskull from Skeletor, the evil lord of Snake Mountain, and his band of bizarre warriors.

The Filmation animated series (1983–1985) brought Eternia to life with a unique blend of fantasy, sci-fi, and moral lessons at the end of each episode. Iconic characters like Man-At-Arms, Teela, The Sorceress, and the comical Orko became instant fan favorites.

On the toy front, Mattel unleashed:

• Muscular figures with removable armor.

• Futuristic vehicles like the Battle Ram and Wind Raider.

• Legendary playsets including Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain.
