Description

Sludge Viper v1 – Cobra’s Toxic Trooper (G.I. Joe 1991)

In 1991, the G.I. Joe line took a bold turn with the launch of the Eco-Warriors sub-series, focusing on environmental themes and pollution battles. On the Cobra side, Hasbro introduced the Sludge Viper v1, one of the most striking enemy figures of the early 90s. These troops specialized in chemical warfare, spreading toxins and contamination to further Cobra’s domination.

The Sludge Viper v1 figure is instantly recognizable with its bright green suit, accented by yellow and purple details, and its menacing full-face helmet with a built-in respirator. This flamboyant aesthetic perfectly captured the colorful spirit of early 90s action figures.

Equipped with a toxic blaster connected to a backpack via a hose, the Sludge Viper looked ready to unleash chemical chaos on the battlefield. It was the perfect counterpart to the heroic G.I. Joe Eco-Warriors team, led by characters such as Flint and Clean-Sweep.

First released in 1991, the Sludge Viper v1 illustrates Hasbro’s willingness to experiment with new concepts and move beyond the strictly military style of the 80s. While divisive at the time, the figure is now considered a cult piece among collectors, remembered for its bold design and unique place in the Cobra ranks.
