Monster Spitballs – When Dracula and Frankenstein went to water war

Launched in the mid-1980s by Entertech (a division of LJN), Monster Spitballs were part of that glorious era when toy shelves were ruled by slime, fangs, and neon. Each pack featured a pair of classic movie monsters — like Dracula, Frankenstein’s creature, the Wolfman, or the Mummy — reimagined as squishy foam heads that could squirt water up to 18 feet.

The packaging was pure 80s magic: bright gothic lettering, comic-book illustrations, and a monster face-off straight out of a drive-in horror flick. Simple, silly, and slightly gross, these toys captured the fun side of horror that defined the decade’s playgrounds.

Entertech, better known for its battery-powered water guns and realistic accessories, hit a nostalgic nerve with these cheeky monsters. They were the creepy cousins of the Madballs, but with a built-in water-blast gimmick.

Today, Monster Spitballs have become cult collectibles, especially when still sealed in their original blister packs. They’re cherished for their outrageous artwork and that perfect mix of camp horror and toy-store mischief.

Proof that in the 80s, even the scariest monsters just wanted to play.
