First appearing in Iron Man #55 (1973), Drax the Destroyer was created by Jim Starlin and Mike Friedrich as a cosmic instrument of revenge. Once a human named Arthur Douglas, he was killed along with his family by Thanos — only to be resurrected by the Titan’s father, Mentor, and reborn as a powerful being with one purpose: to destroy Thanos.
