Description

Anthony "Tony" Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, is a superhero in the Marvel Universe published by Marvel Comics. Created by screenwriter Stan Lee, developed by Larry Lieber and designed by cartoonists Don Heck and Jack Kirby, the fictional character first appeared in the comic book Tales of Suspense (vol. 1) #39 in March 1963, scripted by Larry Lieber and drawn by Don Heck.

From 1968, the character had his own comic, The Invincible Iron Man, published by Marvel until 1996 with #332.

At the start of his career as a superhero, Tony Stark's main occupation was to fight the Communists in the context of the Cold War, much more systematically than other Marvel Comics characters. This historical framework gradually disappeared, in favor of science-fiction adventures. The context of the Iron Man series then continued to evolve over the years, with the character facing mostly technological threats.

Iron Man's body is that of a normal man, with no supernatural or superhuman powers, but made super-powerful when he dons one of the many high-tech suits of armor designed using Stark's impressive scientific skills. The armor, which can fly at supersonic speeds, gives Tony Stark superhuman strength and resistance, and is equipped with multiple weapons, sensors and electronic systems.
