Originally debuting in a 1978 comic by Larry Hama and Michael Golden, Bucky O’Hare truly hit pop culture hyperspace in the early 90s with a high-energy animated series and a Hasbro toyline.
Set in the Aniverse, a parallel dimension populated by anthropomorphic animals, Bucky captains the Righteous Indignation, leading the fight against the Toad Empire — a slimy amphibian dictatorship ruled by the sinister KOMPLEX. His colorful crew includes Jenny the telepathic cat, Deadeye Duck the four-armed sharpshooter, Bruiser the space gorilla, and Willy DuWitt, a human kid pulled into their galactic war.
Fast-paced battles, colorful worlds, and just the right mix of humor and sci-fi made Bucky O’Hare a standout. And in true 90s fashion, the brand expanded into:
A Hasbro action figure line with vibrant sculpts.
A gorgeous Konami arcade game (1992).
A challenging NES platformer.
With only 13 TV episodes, Bucky O’Hare burned bright and fast — and fans still dream of seeing the green hero hop back into action.
