M.A.S.K.: when espionage met transforming vehicles

Premiered in 1985, M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) follows Matt Trakker and his team of elite agents, armed with transforming vehicles and powerful masks, as they take on VENOM (Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem) led by the ruthless Miles Mayhem.

Each agent wields a unique mask — invisibility, flame jets, holograms — and a vehicle that shifts into a combat machine. The show blended espionage thrills, sci-fi gadgets, and high-speed chases, making every episode an action-packed ride.

The Kenner toyline was legendary: Matt Trakker’s Thunderhawk (red sports car to jet), Miles Mayhem’s Switchblade (helicopter to jet fighter), the Rhino (truck with hidden cannon), and many more, now prized by collectors.
Personal twist: as a kid, I asked for the Thunderhawk at Christmas… but got Cliff Dagger’s Jackhammer instead. At first disappointed, I ended up loving it and playing with it for hours.

The franchise expanded into comics (DC, later IDW), a second “racing” season (MASK: The Racing Series), and still enjoys a passionate fanbase longing for a revival.

Fast, flashy, and full of transformations, M.A.S.K. remains one of the slickest fusions of animated series and toyline from the 80s.
