Description

Captain Britain – The mystic knight of the Marvel multiverse

Created in 1976 by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe, Captain Britain was Marvel’s bold attempt to craft a true British superhero — one rooted in both science and sorcery. Introduced in Captain Britain Weekly by Marvel UK, he quickly stood apart from his American counterparts through his ties to Celtic mythology and the legends of King Arthur.

His real name is Brian Braddock, a young physicist chosen by Merlin and Roma after a near-fatal accident. Gifted with the Amulet of Right, he becomes the magical protector of Britain — and, later, of the entire Omniverse, a network of parallel realities watched over by countless versions of himself known as the Captain Britain Corps.

Throughout the decades, his mythology deepened under writers like Alan Moore and Alan Davis, who transformed him into a multiversal guardian wrestling with destiny, duty, and identity. His costume evolved alongside his story — from bright, flag-inspired colors to sleek, modern armor reflecting his cosmic responsibilities.

Captain Britain’s story bridges worlds: magic and technology, patriotism and existentialism. Through his sister Betsy Braddock (Psylocke of the X-Men), he’s connected to Marvel’s mutant mythos, making him one of the universe’s most versatile and symbolically rich heroes.

Equal parts scientist and knight, Captain Britain remains an icon of what Marvel does best: blending myth with modernity and turning local legends into universal epics.
